Saturday 9 February at 2.0-4.30pm, Fifth floor conference
room, Community Base South Wing, 113-117 Queens Rd, Brighton
The ecopsychology movement presents us with some disturbing news - that
our relationship to nature has been damaged by our industrialised society
and that this separation is at the root of our psychic distress and
our destructive relationship to the environment.
Ecotherapy is a word that has recently come to the fore in terms of
a range of therapeutic interventions that might benefit people in distress.
A recent MIND report found that walking and other activities in nature
have a marked benefit on mental health, stress and self esteem. Ecotherapy
can also be seen as a very ancient form of therapy, used by our ancestors
in order to gain insight and wisdom.
Martin Jordan is a senior lecturer in counselling and psychotherapy
at the University of Brighton. He has had a long interest in Ecotherapy
and how natural environments might help us to heal our psyche.
Tickets can be ordered with the booking form on page 20 (cost £10
members & £20
non-members). Enclose a stamped addressed envelope for return of your
tickets.

Saturday 8 March 2008 from 10.0 am - 3.0 pm
Fifth floor conference room, Community Base South Wing, 113-117 Queens
Rd, Brighton
Play therapy is a therapeutic approach to working with
children who have experienced trauma, loss, separation or have emotional/behavioural
difficulties. By using children’s natural form of communication
– play – they enter into a dynamic relationship with the
therapist that enables them to express, explore and make sense of their
painful experiences.
In this interactive workshop, Jessica Jager will provide
a brief overview of play therapy. Materials will be available for participants
to bring this type of work to life. Case studies, videos and experiential
exercises will allow participants to experience the power of play.
Jessica Jager is a qualified Play Therapist and Filial
Therapist. She is currently employed with East Sussex CAMHS team and
on a freelance basis for Triangle who work with children with challenging
behaviour and communication difficulties. She is also doing research
in Play and Filial Therapy at The University of York for her PhD.
Tickets cost £20 for members and £40 for
non-members. Tea and coffee provided but please bring your own lunch.
