Sussex Counselling Seminars September and November 09

Sussex Counselling Introduce two new Seminars this Autumn.

The Dialogical Self in Therapy: The Different Parts of Me.

Workshop led by Jay Beichman.
Saturday 19th Sept from 10-2

Members £5 non-members £20
Payment by paypal (below) or you can reserve your place by emailing seminars@sussexcounselling.co.uk - pay on the door.

This workshop will cover the basic theoretical concept leading into experiential work allowing participants to put the theory into practice. Most commonly known as subpersonalities (but also a host of different terms) working consciously with these parts leads to very effective and illuminating work. All therapeutic theories conceptualise parts of the self so there's a lot to draw on but Jay will focus mostly on the work of John Rowan, Mick Cooper and Hubert Hermans. There will be time and opportunity for discussion and the seminar will have an experiential component to see how we might put the ideas into practice in the counselling room.

In his work over the years he has become more and more interested in working with the different 'parts' of the self.

The Myth of Persephone:

A creative workshop using myth as an experiential means to self exploration led by Isabella Florshutz.

Sat 7th Nov from 10-2 – community base

Myths and fairytales have helped guide and inspire human beings for millennia and contain words and images, which we can draw on in our work as therapists. The Greek Myth of Persephone describes the journey of the individual towards Individuation. The transformation and maturation of male and female soul qualities can help us understand and balance the masculine and feminine aspects of ourselves.

It can be used as a therapeutic method, especially with female clients, because it describes the phases of life of a woman and encapsulates many of the issues that women may bring to therapy. It represents a creative journey and when we work with the myth in the therapy process it is important to make it an alive, vibrant experience. Incorporating various arts can enrich its properties. Together we will express freely and creatively through discussion, movement to music, and painting, the images which emerge from the myth.
